Moon

13 is a good number. It just got a bad reputation back in time. There are, in fact, thirteen full moons in a year. Witches celebrate the full moon or Esbats as a peak of power.

The moon has cycles as women have cycles as all of nature has cycles. Long ago it was observed that a woman is fertile once a month, the moon is full once a month.

The moon's pull changes the tides of the ocean.

Each full moon has at least one traditional name:

January Moon After Yule, Wolf Moon, or Old Moon, February Snow Moon or Hunger Moon,
March - Sap Moon, Worm Moon, Crow Moon, Crust Moon, or Lenten Moon, April - Egg Moon Grass Moon, Pink Moon, Moon of the Red Grass Appearing, May - Milk Moon, Planting Moon, June - Rose Moon, Strawberry Moon Flower Moon, July - Thunder Moon, Buck Moon or Hay Moon, August - Green Corn Moon, Corn Moon, Sturgeon Moon, Grain Moon, September - Fruit Moon, Harvest Moon, October - Harvest Moon, Hunter's Moon, November - Frost Moon, Beaver Moon, December – Moon before Yule, Long Night Moon, Cold Moon

Do you have any rituals during the eclipse?

anonymous,
There are no eclipse spells that I have learned from another witch. My two main reference books; Spiral Dance by Starhawk and Wicca; A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner do not list any eclipse rituals or list eclipse in the index.
So, consider what this Eclipse was. http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/eclipse.html
Our Earth passed between the Sun and the Moon. We revere the natural world and the cycles of the sun and moon. Everything is connected.
The Eclipse was the first of it's kind in 3 years. There are many Trinities such as Maiden, Mother and Crone; the Triple Goddess.
The fact that the moon was also full on that day was a conjunction that has significance to me. A union, a beautiful nighttime display produced by the powers and movements of the Earth, Moon and Sun.
This was a Significant peak of power.
