How I Became a Witch

As a girl child I would go under a willow tree after church. I felt God there. I was raised in a Lutheran church. Mary is not a particularly important figure in Lutheran teachings. Lutheranism is a Protestant tradition, split from the Catholic church in which Mary is regarded as the Holy Spirit.

I saw a witch on television and built a little altar in my bedroom. My mother gave me cinnamon sticks and spices. Later my father told me that witches were evil. I took my altar down.

In my late teens and early twenties I had a dear friend suggest Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham (pictured above).
I connected with what he had to say about the duality of nature. The Goddess and God. He wrote what was in my heart. Since that time I continued to read and met others who were drawn along the same path. While living in Ellensburg I dedicated myself to the path of the goddess. I bought myself a ring that I wore for years and years. I joined a Circle and practiced with others, practiced solitary and formed or semi formed circles.
Blogging is my new frontier...
